Construction work on the Fuping Railway (Fuzhou-Pingtan) is expected to begin on Nov 1 at the latest. The railway will make it possible to travel between Fuzhou and Pingtan in only half an hour.

The 90-kilometer railway will have six stations -- Fuzhou, South Fuzhou, Changle, East Changle, Songxia and Pingtan -- with a total budget of 21.23 billion yuan ($3.48 billion).

The project involves an electrified double-track railway with a maximum speed of 200 kilometers per hour spanning a distance of 88.5 kilometers. The line also includes a 14.8-kilometer cross-sea section on the Haixia Rail-Road Bridge.

On the basis of the railway, another railway linking Fuzhou with the airport in Changle, both cities in Fujian province, is next up for construction. Passengers will have to spend roughly 20 minutes to cover a distance of 26 kilometers.
