Two senior officials from the Fujian Provincial People's Congress, the province's top legislature, visited Pingtan last Wednesday to investigate its development prospects.

Lu Ping and Zhu Qing, both members of the standing committee of the 12th People's Congress of Fujian Province, evaluated a draft plan by the legislature body that designated further support for Pingtan's development.

After three years of construction, Pingtan has the basic conditions for development and a more livable environment. It now plays a bigger role in cross-Straits communication, said Gong Qinggai, director of the Pingtan administrative committee, adding that Pingtan is eager for the release of the provincial government's draft plan.

The investigation team said the proposals and opinions by Pingtan's government officials provided important references to the draft plan, and the congress will strive to help Pingtan enjoy more privileges from the perspective of legislation.
