Three years since its establishment, the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, Southeast China's Fujian province, still needs to explore a more scientific administrative system, said Xu Gang, vice-governor of Fujian province during his visit to Pingtan on Wednesday.

Pingtan's administrative structure has gradually improved, but it still needs to address issues regarding laws, administrative management, and supervision and monitoring. It is the Chinese mainland's first pilot zone opening to Taiwan, said Gong Qinggai, director of Pingtan's administrative committee.

Xu praised the achievements made by Pingtan in the last three years and said it still needs to explore a more rational, scientific administrative structure.

The design of Pingtan's administrative mechanism should create unique features and adhere to the principles of efficiency, cross-Straits communication and legitimate governance, said Xu.

The Fujian provincial government and Pingtan will jointly set up a research team to conduct a survey on an improved administrative mechanism, he added.
