A Taiwanese marine ecological industry business matchmaking seminar delegation, led by Kuomintang legislator Wang Chin-Shih, visited the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone on September 11. Gong Qinggai, Pingtan's administrative committee director, welcomed the delegates.

They discussed cooperation opportunities such as hosting the international nanotechnology forum in Pingtan and promoting road trips to the island county among Taiwanese tourists.

Chen Tongchi, chairman of Taiwan Nanotechnology Corporation, said that in order to serve the United Nation's Millennium Project and enhance environmental protection, his company plans to hold the International Nanotechnology Forum in Pingtan in May next year. The company will also establish its research and development center and production and certification bases in Pingtan.

Gong Qinggai said such international activities would spread Pingtan's influence beyond the Straits. The local government is willing to provide necessary support for these projects.

Wang Chin-Shih said relevant sides in Taiwan are planning a road trip to Fujian province among Taiwanese tourists. Wang expected that Fujian and Pingtan authorities would facilitate entrance checks for vehicles from Taiwan.

Gong showed great support for the plan. He said they would propose the ideas to the provincial government after discussions with customs, transportation and public security departments. He also expected the road trip to Pingtan would attract more tourists to visit Fujian province as a whole.

The two parties also discussed building up cold chain storage and trade platforms in Pingtan.
