The forest area in the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone increased to about 1,300 hectares by the end of July, exceeding the predicted quota of 1,000 hectares, according to statistics from the Pingtan Landscape and Forestry Bureau.

The new forestation areas include reforestation in the county's key eco-region, which lies along the major section of the "Round-the-Island" Road, as well as greenbelts in rural areas.

Forestation is a major task on the Fujian government agenda. Government officials have done field research and provided practical instruction for key areas. Local governments also provided technological support and logistics services for tree-planting teams.

Major officials of Pingtan, including Gong Qinggai, director of the pilot zone's administrative committee, visited key forestation areas such as the Thirty-Six Foot Lake scenic area. The Pingtan Landscape and Forestry Bureau also designated experts to facilitate tree-planting projects.
