A delegation from Taiwan visited Pingtan for commercial investigation on Aug 21, 2012. Gong Qinggai, party secretary of the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, welcomed delegation members. He also introduced the pilot zone's opening up and development.

Gong noted that Pingtan will not only open to Taiwan's financial groups and large enterprises, but also small- and medium-sized companies. The direct sea route linking Pingtan and Taichung will develop into a major cross-Straits transportation route.

Gong hopes Taiwan and Pingtan can maintain a close relationship as Pingtan becomes a cross-Straits economic and cultural communication hub.

The guests visited Pingtan's Urban Planning Exhibition Hall, Aoqian Dock, Jidiao Dock, real estate in Ruyi Town and the construction site of the Tanxi Road tunnel. They discussed various investment issues with Pingtan's leaders, including projects regarding port logistic platforms, ecological farming, biogas power generation and carbon emission reduction.

Xia Lingyi, a member of the delegation, said that Pingtan is a promising place and he hopes to find a proper investment program for the area.
